The Foolish Five

The Foolish Five and the Wise Old Man

Once upon a time, in a small village, there lived five men who were renowned for their lack of common sense. They were so foolish, in fact, that their neighbors often wondered how they managed to tie their shoes in the morning. Their wise old teacher lived just outside the village, and they would often turn to him for advice, though it rarely helped their situation.

One sunny day, one of the five foolish men climbed a tall tree. But, alas, he couldn't figure out how to get down. His friends scratched their heads and pondered the problem, but to no avail. Finally, they decided to seek the guidance of their wise teacher.

When the teacher arrived at the scene, he surveyed the situation with a knowing twinkle in his eye. After a moment of deep thought, he turned to his students and said, "Fetch me a long rope." The students scurried off and returned with a rope as long as a snake.

The teacher then instructed the foolish men to tie the rope around the stuck man. With much effort, they managed to get the rope to the man in the tree. The teacher called up, "Tie the rope tightly around your waist." The man did as he was told.

Then, the teacher instructed the men on the ground to pull the rope as hard as they could. With a mighty heave, they pulled, and down came the foolish man, crashing to the ground with a thud. His friends rushed to his side, fearing the worst.

"I think he's dead," one of them said, his voice trembling.

The teacher approached the fallen man, checked his pulse, and then burst out laughing. "Incredible!" he exclaimed. "This is the first time this has ever happened. I've pulled twenty people out of wells in my lifetime, and not one of them has ever died. Oh, the irony!"

And so, the foolish men learned a valuable lesson that day: sometimes, even the wisest advice can have unexpected consequences.
